(I work as security at a manufacturing plant. It mostly entails signing people in and out; including truck drivers who pick up product from the plant to deliver to the buyers)
Driver: Is there a managers phone number I can get? I want to make a complaint about the shipping clerk.
Me: I don’t really have actual phone numbers. My phone here just dials extensions.
Driver: Are you sure you don’t have the phone number and aren’t just covering for her?
Me: (looks at him)
Driver: Whatever. That clerk is rude. I’ve been doing this for ten years and I’m not going to be lectured by her.
(Evidently he checked out at the office but never actually left the loading dock. After 30 minutes of being parked there, the shipping clerk had begun to assign other trucks to that dock and had told the driver he had to leave)
Driver: This is bad customer service.
Me: You do realize that we’re the customers, right? We’re paying you to ship our product. But, if you’re sure you’re in the right, I can take your manager’s contact info and pass it on to the manager here. Then they can hash out who’ll stop getting paid, her or you and your company.
Driver: Umm…no. I don’t want to make a big deal about it.
